Unlike tattoos, permanent makeup is applied only to the epidermis—the outermost layer of the skin. The shallower depth of their application along with their lighter composition makes permanent makeup pigments fade away within 1 to 3 years, whereas permanent tattoo ink will stay in the skin forever.
However, the fading can vary depending on the type of needle, color of pigment, age factor, skin type, etc.
